3 Signs You’re Married to a Narcissist

You’re so vain, you probably think this blog is about you.

According to Merriam-Webster, a narcissist is defined as an extremely self-centered person who has an exaggerated sense of self-importance.

Now, there’s a difference between having a healthy sense of self-confidence and becoming completely self-absorbed, the latter is the common description of a narcissist.

From reacting aggressively to criticism and taking advantage of others for personal gain, the traits associated with narcissism can vary based on the person.

And, since you’ve landed on this blog, odds are the nagging question as to whether or not you’re married to a narcissist has been in the back of your mind.

Lucky for you, we’ve outlined three common signs to look for in your partner

3 Signs You’re Married to a Narcissist

Steals the Spotlight…Constantly.

Narcissists talk and talk and talk some more and the topic of conversation is usually about themselves.

A conversation with a narcissist is typically a monologue, not a dialogue, as they don’t give the other person a chance to interject their thoughts and opinions.

However, if you do happen to sneak a word in and that opinion doesn’t line up to theirs, the narcissist will be quick to adjust, correct, or dismiss your opinion.

Another common sign of narcissism is that the person exudes poor communication skills in that they interrupt others in an effort to reroute the conversation back to themselves.

Cares (A lot) About Their Image

Not only is a mirror their best friend, but they’re also grossly wrapped up in how others perceive them. Their main goal is to impress others by flaunting grandiose financial, material, social, and physical aspects of their lives to others.

From buying and showing off expensive things like cars, clothes, you name it, narcissists will go to great lengths to show that they’re better than others and that they’re worthy of everyone’s admiration, affection, and time.

Lacks Empathy

What happens when you try and share the details of your day? Do they get bored? Do they have a hard time showing interest in what you’re saying?

A narcissist lacks the ability to empathize and even sympathize with their significant other as they struggle to acknowledge and process emotions that aren’t their own.
