Being the Good: Anton Garcia Law Employees Do A Lot With A Little
One week ago, we gave every Anton Garcia Law employee $20 with the challenge to do as much good as they could with that $20 – and the winner would receive a prize. To say we’ve been impressed and inspired by the response would be an understatement.
Each member of our Anton Garcia Law team took to the task enthusiastically, but our winner, Lynn Roberts, took the prize for her creativity and thoughtfulness. She took her $20 and used it to spread around “random acts of kindness” – from leaving a baggie of quarters at the Laundromat, to a bit of cash in the Dollar Store grocery aisle. She posted on her own Facebook wall:
“A week ago, my employer, Christina Garcia of Anton Garcia law, challenged all of the employees to”do good” with $20.00. She gave each employee $20.00 and the challenge for each of us to do good and document our efforts. When confronted with this challenge, I questioned just how much of a difference I could make with $20.00. Sitting in the comfort of my home looking around at all that I am blessed with, all that I am thankful for, I realized that it wasn’t as hard as I thought. My goal throughout this past week was to spread “Random Acts of Kindness”. I prepared small baggies with a simple message “Please Enjoy This Random Act of Kindness” and placed them in a variety of locations in my community such as the laundromat, the toy & food isles at the Dollar Tree and on the screen of a Red Box dispenser. I finished up my challenge when I purchased groceries and donated a small amount to Publix’s Food for Sharing program. With a mere $20.00 and a very grateful heart I was able to complete a week of Random Acts of Kindness. I would love to continue the challenge and ask you, my friends to try it… You’ll love the way it makes you feel.”
Anton Garcia Law’s newest addition, family attorney Robert McGlynn, also showed a lot of creativity with his $20 – he used it to donate a flock of ducks to a family in need on heifer.org, and organization built on the principle that if you “teach a man to fish, he will never go hungry.” Heifer.org works to empower families by bringing sustainable agriculture and commerce to poverty-stricken areas, and the animals that are supplied become not only a source of sustainable food, but also of income for the families.
Other members of our team used their $20 to:
-Purchase canned goods for local food banks
-Pay the bills of a customer at a local retail store that they frequent
-Donate toward the families of fallen police officers in Iowa
-Donate to the 50/50 Lightning raffle that benefits Moffit Cancer Center
Lynn Roberts, winner of the challenge, received an additional prize of $100 which she plans to use to do more good for the community.
Christina Anton Garcia, Anton Garcia Law partner and family law attorney, said she was inspired by her team’s creativity and enthusiasm for the challenge. “I love the positivity and selflessness that it brought out in our team and in others with whom they shared their ideas. It shows that you can do a lot for someone with not a lot of money.”
