Goodbye 2016 and hello 2017! As we welcome a new year, a celebration is most definitely in order. Fortunately for all of us, we live in a great city where there’s an event on every corner, from family friendly to black tie and everything in between. No matter how you plan to bring in the new year, just do so responsibly and have a DUI prevention plan before you walk out the door.
Downtown Parties & Events
There are a ton of options when it comes to celebrating the New Year in downtown style. Better yet, there are also a ton of hotel rooms within walking distance or just a short cab ride away. If you’re going to splurge on the event, why not go for the downtown hotel room as well? It’s cheaper than a DUI!

Family Friendly Events
Let’s face it, if you’ve got the kids in tow, you’re not heading to a themed NYE party that goes beyond midnight. So, let’s focus on some NYE family fun that is safe, alcohol-free, and ends early! Don’t worry, you can pop that bottle of champagne when you get home.
Downtown Countdown at the Glazer Children’s Museum: This family friendly event includes party punch, hats, bubble wrap fireworks, a dance party, and a balloon drop of at noon.
New Year’s Eve Busch Gardens: Celebrate the New Year with rides, music, and a firework display in Gwazi Park.
Noon Year’s Eve at Lowry Park Zoo: Toast the New Year at noon and celebrate with tons of activities for the kids, live entertainment, character appearances, and more!
If you’re looking to bring in the New Year with a bang, you’re in luck no matter what part of town you live in. Firework shows start as early as 8pm for those who wish to head home early (ideal for families) and go until the ball drops at midnight. Side note: If you plan to enjoy NYE festivities prior to watching fireworks, this is your moment to have a designated driver take you and your crew to the show and back home safely.
Neighborhood Block Party
There’s no better way to avoid a DUI, than to just stay home! Gather the neighbors, organize a pot luck, throw up a bounce house, and have a good old fashioned neighborhood block party. Here you get the best of both worlds – the freedom to enjoy some cocktails without the worry of getting behind the wheel.
